DJ Scream

DJ Scream was born to make the speakers talk and in some cases scream, hence the professional moniker.  Growing up on the Eastside of Atlanta where he split his childhood between the suburbs and the hood, the infamous spinner was given the unique advantage to combine the inspiration of both environments and relate to a diverse audience, which has served him well in a career that spans almost two decades.  His dedication to being the best was instilled in him as a youngster.  Learning the DJ ropes gorilla-style by way of a used pair of Pioneer turntables, a crate, the fundamentals of turntablism and round-the-clock practicing, DJ Scream’s remarkably well-defined sound, as well as passion for his craft, are just a few of the many reasons why he has become one of the most sought after tour/performance DJs for independent and major recording artists in the game.

While earning a degree in Engineering at Tuskegee University, DJ Scream helped revolutionize the small college town’s club scene.  The reputation the 6’5” party starter slowly built from his club and mixtape exploits created opportunities in radio – starting with college stations that included Georgia State University and Auburn University.  These gigs quickly led to mixshow appearances on Atlanta’s Hot 107.9 (WHTA-FM), where he holds down several time slots throughout the week.

In 2004, the ambitious go-getter parlayed the name he created into a global brand called Hoodrich Entertainment, a Marketing and Management company along with business partner and manager Marcus Rippy.   The duo wisely attached the audible “Heavy In The Street” and “Hoodrich” taglines, notably featuring Plies to everything the company was a part of creating instant recognition.  DJ Scream has come a long way since his affiliation with Hittmen Productions (Hittmen DJs) now having his own coalition of spin wizards under the Hoodrich umbrella aptly named Hoodrich DJ’s.

Creating solid partnerships has been essential in DJ Scream’s slow climb to success having served as both host and DJ of pivotal mixtapes for a string of all-star Hip-Hop talent over the years.  From Young Jeezy, Plies, Soulja Boy and OutKast, to The Game, Pimp C, Rocko Da Don, Gucci Mane, Yung Ralph, Project Pat and Shawty Lo, the charismatic front man is arguably one of the most influential DJ’s in the business.

DJ Scream has enjoyed a successful run as the tour DJ for R&B superstar Montell Jordan, as well as Rap groups Crime Mob and the chart-topping D4L, all playing a major role in his ascension to the top.  “Touring with D4L specifically, allowed me to see how a group can go from 30,000 units the first week to a gold album, to eventually platinum,” states DJ Scream.  “The experience taught me that when you touch people, they remember, whether it’s negative or positive; therefore make sure it’s the latter because people do talk.”

DJ Scream’s stringent work ethic, trailblazing skills and relentless hustle have taken him all over the world including Germany and Austria and been acknowledged with features and appearances by respected media outlets and TV programs such as XXL, The Source, Hip Hop Weekly, Ozone, Fader, Scratch, Down, Allhiphop, MTV, BET, The Monique Show and Soul Train.   He was also given the honor of #1 DJ of the Year at the 2011 Southern Entertainment Awards (SEA) beating out such top talent as DJ Drama, DJ Jelly, DJ Aaries and DJ Bigga Rankin, as well as snagging the Mixtape DJ of the Year in 2009 and 2010.  In 2010, MTV named DJ Scream as Top DJ of the Year and rightfully deserved.  In addition to releasing at least one mixtape per week, mixing for Hot 107.9, hosting his own show Hoodrich Radio on Sirius XM Hip Hop Nation and snagging exclusive interviews with Wiz Khalifa, Young Jeezy, Rick Ross, Rodney Jerkins, Ray J and Trina, to name a few and appearing on The Raw Report DVD series, DJ Scream shows no signs of slowing down.  He recently inked a record deal with Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group and is currently working on his yet untitled debut album to be released in the spring of 2012.

The man behind the wheels of steel, who built his livelihood on giving the people what they want to hear, strives to maintain his reputation as one of the hardest working DJ’s in the world but also has aspirations outside of music.  “I want to further my career as a DJ, but more importantly, I want to be relevant in the community and be an influential voice of the people and their struggles.”
